How to Apply for the SASSA SRD R370 Grant Online?

The SRD R370 grant is the one SASSA payment you have to apply for yourself, online, and then keep an eye on. This page walks through the application, what you need in front of you before you start, and the mistakes that get applications declined.

The application is only available at the SASSA SRD grant portal. You can not use the SASSA offices to apply for the Social Relief of Distress grant. After you apply, check your status on srd.sassa.gov.za to see whether it is approved.

SASSA SRD Grant Payment Dates

There is no SRD payment calendar, and there never has been. SASSA announces each month’s dates on its own and the Department of Social Development’s social media, usually a few days before the money goes out. If a site is showing you SRD dates for months that have not happened yet, those dates are invented.

Two facts are steady enough to plan around. SRD pays in arrears, so a payment covers the previous month. And the window is short, about two days, not the week-long stretch at month-end that most guides show.

Your own date shows on your status page at srd.sassa.gov.za (opens in a new tab).

SASSA SRD R370 Payment Eligibility Criteria

What does the SRD SASSA Application Status Mean?

When you check your SRD SASSA application status, you may come across one of three main statuses: Pending, Declined, or Failed. Each status gives insight into the progress and outcome of your application for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

Status Pending means that your application has been received but is still under review. SASSA is verifying your personal details, income status, and eligibility. This stage involves checking data with other government institutions such as Home Affairs, UIF, and SARS. If your application remains in this status for too long, it is advised to check back or contact SASSA for updates regularly.

Status Declined indicates that your application did not meet one or more of the eligibility requirements. This could be due to reasons like having alternative sources of income, receiving other grants, or inconsistencies in your information. If you believe this decision is wrong, you can appeal. You have between 30 and 90 days from the day SASSA declined you, and you must lodge a separate appeal for every month you were declined.

Status Failed generally means there was a technical or data error during the application process, such as incorrect ID details or verification failures. In such cases, it’s important to update your application information and reapply.

How to Submit an Appeal Application If the SRD Grant is Rejected?

Appeals are not handled by SASSA. They go to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), which sits under the Department of Social Development (DSD). You lodge the appeal on the DSD appeals site, and ITSAA decides it.
